Nancy Spencer

My name is Nancy (but I much prefer Nance). I am a mom, a lover of nature and movement. I grew up in Edmonton but spent my summers at the lake playing in the water, making paths, and pulling slivers out of the bottom of my feet. How I long for those days!

I first became involved with the Skills society in my research role at the University of Alberta, where I am currently an associate professor. My initial meeting with Skills was love at first idea, a researcher’s dream. I had the great fortune to be a part of Project Citizenship and the creation of stories designed to generate social change and organizational transformation. The energy of the people at Skills, their commitment to social justice, willingness to think outside of the box (stomping on it if necessary), and openness, brought to my research and life a sense of renewed possibilities. I am delighted and honoured to be a part of the Board of Directors and the opportunity to collaborate with Skills, to dream, and take action toward making the world a better place for all people and in particular those who experience disability.
